Why natural fibres?
After long consideration when establishing Millicent Elizabeth, I wanted to bring back the luxury of natural fibres into our daliy lives, I wanted women to feel special and unique but more than that I wanted women to be comfortable yet be a sustainable fashion label. Now sustainable fashion sounds like an oxy-moron, how can an industry built on consumption and trends be sustainable. Well Millicent Elizabeth is built on the foundations of wearable, transeasonal, timeless clothing which are 100% Natural Fibres, Millicent ELizabeth focuses on key pieces that will last in your wardrobe season to season. We are bulit on the principles of longevity in style, cuts and fabrics. We choose Natural Fibres as they are renewable resource, and they have great natural properties; Natural fiber textiles absorb perspiration and release it into the air, a process called “wicking” that creates natural ventilation, The “breathability” of natural fiber textiles makes their wearers less prone to skin rashes, itching and allergies often caused by synthetics. The bends, or crimp, in wool fibers trap pockets of air which act as insulators against both cold and heat – Bedouins (Arab dessert dwellers) wear thin wool to keep them cool. Natural fibers are a renewable resource, they have been renewed by nature and human ingenuity for millennia. They are also carbon neutral: they absorb the same amount of carbon dioxide they produce. During processing, they generate mainly organic wastes and leave residues that can be used to generate electricity or make ecological housing material. And, at the end of their life cycle, they are 100% biodegradable. So the question isn't why natural fibres, but why not?
